Area teens may want to become crime scene investigators after high school graduation after spending some time this summer at 麻豆视频 State College. The GSC Criminal Justice Program is offering its very first Criminal Justice Summer Camp June 24-30, 2007 for upcoming high school juniors and seniors.
GSC Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Dr. Karen Miller, says participants will receive hands-on experience in crime scene investigations. 鈥淭he camp offers many exciting opportunities to investigate mock crime scenes with equipment used by state and federal detectives, analyze fingerprints, run ballistics checks, cast impression molds, and analyze blood spatter,鈥 said Dr. Miller. CJ campers will also learn how to conduct traffic stops, learn about search and seizure, constitutional law, house clearing, first aid, and the dangers of dealing with criminal suspects.
GSC Visiting Instructor of Criminal Justice, Dan Martens, says it鈥檚 a great opportunity to raise awareness about the criminal justice field for those thinking about careers in that occupational area. 鈥淭he camp gives those who are interested in becoming criminal justice practitioners the opportunity to see if this is really what they want to do,鈥 Martens said.
Martens says the camp is not only educational but also extremely affordable. 鈥淭hanks to federal grant money, the camp is free including the lessons, room, and board. The campers are only responsible for their transportation to and from the college.鈥 The camp is limited to forty people. The camp will be offered again during the next two summers.
