James & Patricia Walcutt Lydon Scholarship

The 鶹ƵState University Foundation is pleased to announce the formation of the James & Patricia Walcutt Lydon Scholarship.

The scholarship is designed to support students attending 鶹ƵState University from Wirt County majoring in Mathematics or Social Studies Education. The fund was established by Jim ‘66 and Patricia (Walcutt) ‘68 Lydon to honor their time spent at 鶹ƵState College and to assist future West Virginia educators.

Jim, who came from Lewis County, and Pat, a native of Wood County, met at 鶹ƵState College. One year they attended homecoming together even though Jim had already graduated; he says “something magical happened” and the rest was history. The pair would go on to wed and then Pat taught in the Wirt County school system for many years before their retirement.

Through their scholarship, the Lydon’s hope to inspire students from Wirt County to pursue a degree in education and to remain in the state of West Virginia. Jim and Pat believe all future educators are important and, because of their experiences, believe it is important to help those students who may not have the means to help themselves.
