GSC Students Complete Teaching Internships
Twenty-seven Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College students have completed their student teaching internships at various public schools throughout the area.
Four GSC Cadets Receive Army Commissions
On Friday, May 9th four Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Army ROTC students, also members of the WVSU based 'Yellow Jacket Battalion,' were commissioned as United States Army Second Lieutenants during a ceremony held at the state capitol in Charleston.
Twenty-Nine Students Recognized at Honors Convocation
Twenty-nine students, one student organization, and one student group's faculty advisors have been recognized at the 2014 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Honors Convocation Ceremony. The event took place on May 1st following a banquet in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom.
Largest Class of GSC Hidden Promise Scholars Graduate
Thirteen Hidden Promise Scholars graduating from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College were the guests of honor at a dinner held on Friday, April 30th in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. GSC President Dr. Peter Barr who first envisioned the Hidden Promise Scholars (HPS) program in 2006, presented commemorative plaques and Hidden Promise Scholars class rings in honor of their achievement.
GSC Class of 2014 Receives Their Diplomas; Rust Delivers Keynote Address
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Class of 2014 includes graduates who completed requirements for an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a variety of academic areas including business, criminal justice, teacher education, and natural resource management among others. The GSC Class of 2014 is made up of more than 220 students who completed their degree requirements in July 2013, December 2013, and May 2014.
Fourth Annual Pioneer Showcase Winners Announced
The winners of the fourth annual Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Pioneer Showcase Creative Arts and Research Forum have been announced. The showcase took place on Tuesday, April 22nd and is a competition that allows full-time GSC students an opportunity to present research and creative arts abstracts in a formal setting. The judges are made up of GSC faculty.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Observes Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Students and administrators at GSC teamed up during the month of April to raise awareness about the issue of sexual assault. Members of GSC's Army ROTC program, students in GSC's Sigma Pi Xi criminal justice organization, and various student athletes partnered with the college's Human Resources Department Director during Sexual Assault Awareness Month to conduct a host of events to inform and educate students.
Gibbons Receives 2014 Barr Award
GSC Assistant Professor of Spanish Dr. Megan Gibbons has been selected to receive the 2014 Pete and Betsy Barr Professional Development Award. Gibbons plans to use the award to attend the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Conference in San Diego this May.
Labor History Expert Wess Harris to Speak at GSC
Labor history expert Wess Harris will give a free lecture at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College on Tuesday, April 15th at 12:30 p.m. The presentation will take place in the GSC Heflin Administration Building Presidents Auditorium.
GSC Student Attends AIPAC Conference in Washington D.C.
For the second year in a row, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College student Travis Nesbitt has attended the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in the nation's capital. He was also recently informed that he has been selected to take part in the Campus Allies Mission to Israel trip this summer.
