GSC Bluegrass Band Featured in National Magazine
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Bluegrass Band was recently showcased in the July 2014 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine. This nearly 50 year old publication circulates across the nation and is dedicated to preserving the culture and instilling traditions of the music.
GSC Partners with Shentel to Give Students Fastest Internet in the State
In anticipation of the upcoming school year Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College and Shentel, a Virginia-based cable and internet service provider, have announced a new partnership through which the broadband company will provide high quality cable and internet services to the institution.
GSC Again Offering Evening Classes in Braxton County
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College is continuing its tradition of offering a wide array of evening classes in Braxton County to accommodate students who might have difficulty making it to the GSC campus to take classes during the day. Several weekly evening Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College courses are scheduled to be held this fall at Braxton County High School in the Braxton County Center.
GSC Career Services Counselor Receives Award
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Career Services Counselor, Joanna DiStefano, has been recognized by Creighton University where she was recently awarded a Master of Science in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution from their School of Law.
GSC Professor to Perform at County Historical Society
Jason Barr, Assistant Professor of Music at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College, will hold a free performance at the Gilmer County Historical Society on Thursday, July 17th. Barr's appearance at the meeting will provide the audience with a brief musical history of jazz.
GSC Yearbook and Campus Newspaper Archives Now Online
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College's Robert F. Kidd Library staff recently finished digitally archiving the long-time campus newspaper, The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµMercury as well the college yearbook, the Kanawhachen.
Three Honored as Emeriti Faculty at GSC
Three Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College professors were recognized recently as emeriti faculty; joining 32 other GSC professors who share the title. The honors were bestowed upon Dr. Kathy Butler, Dr. Sherry Jones, and Dr. Michael Smith at the 140th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Two GSC Students Elected to Public Office
Conner Ferguson, a Gilmer County native, and Brianna McClain, a Lewis County native, are both students at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College who are getting involved in local politics at a young age.
GSC ROTC Cadets Participate in Battle of Bulltown Staff Ride
Members of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Army ROTC program recently took part in a 'Staff Ride' at the Bulltown Historic Area located in Braxton County, West Virginia. A Staff Ride is an opportunity for members of a military organization to study historic operations and apply current principles, while fostering a sense of camaraderie with their brethren of the past.
