Mental Health First Aid Certification Held at GSC

The GSC Behavioral Science Club hosted a mental health first aid certification course for its students and alumni on Saturday, November 8th. During the eight-hour course, participants learned a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues, neighbors, and others cope with mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use.

Recitals Planned for GSC Seniors

Two Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College seniors have upcoming recitals planned in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Seth Stemple will perform his senior recital on Sunday, November 16th at 3:00 p.m. and Courtney Cole will perform her senior recital on Tuesday, November 18th at 7:00 p.m.

Historic Mother Jones Presentation Coming to GSC

Storyteller Karen Vuranch is bringing history to life at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College through her portrayal of historical activist, Mary Harris, in a presentation of 'Mother Jones: A Presentation on the Life of Mary Harris'. The drama, which is scheduled for Thursday, November 13th, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 315 of the Mollohan Campus Community Center, is made possible by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council and is being organized by the GSC Department of Social Science.

Shelly Ratliff Successfully Defends Dissertation

Assistant Professor of Education Shelly Ratliff has wrapped up six years' of effort on her doctoral degree and successfully defended her dissertation at Marshall University. Ratliff, who began her teaching career in Calhoun County, has been an instructor at GSC for nearly six years. Her dissertation is titled 'A Study of Kindergarten Teachers' Ability to Teach the Kindergarten Informational Text Standards in Fifteen West Virginia School Districts.'

GSC Forest Technology Students Help at Bulltown

'Trick or Reading' Event Held at GSC

Members of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College's Early Education Student Group recently hosted a Trick or Reading Night for local children in PreK through second grades. Many local families attended the event held on Monday, October 20th and enjoyed the educational evening full of reading, activities, snacks, and costumes for children and parents.

Honors Program Continues at GSC

GSC's Honors Program is now in it's second year. The program is designed to offer students a space where they can study and explore academics with like-minded peers. The program has three components including a rigorous academic environment, service to the local community, and a social outlet for networking and making friends.

GSC Students Clean Section of Little Kanawha River

Students from Dr. Ross Conover's Ecology and Field Biology class, and other Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College volunteers, spent nine wet hours hauling trash out of the Little Kanawha River recently. Members of the self-proclaimed 'Little Kanawha Navy' removed trash and debris from this section of the river last year as well.

Create West Virginia Conference in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµOctober 26-28

GSC Graphics & Digital Media Program gets 3D Printer

The Fine Arts Department at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College is keeping pace with technological trends with the addition of a 3D printer to its Graphics and Digital Media program. The program was able to acquire a fifth generation MakerBot Replicator printer through funding from the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Foundation.
