GSC Brass Ensembles Perform at State Music Conference
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Trumpet and Brass Ensembles were both recently invited to perform at the West Virginia Music Educators Association (WVMEA) Annual In-Service Conference which was held at the Charleston Civic Center. The GSC Trumpet Ensemble was directed by Professor Emeritus Harry Rich and the GSC Brass Ensemble was directed by Department of Fine Arts Chair Dr. Lloyd E. Bone Jr.; both groups performed on Friday, March 11.
GSC Employee Named to Humanities Council Program Committee
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College archivist and reference librarian Jason Gum has been elected to the program committee for the West Virginia Humanities Council. Gum and the other new members will serve a three-year term beginning June 1, 2016 through June 1, 2019.
GSC Schedules Off-Campus Natural Resource Exploration Day in Marlinton
Faculty in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College’s Land Resources Department and staff in the Office of Admissions invite prospective students to attend an event to learn more about Natural Resource Management programs offered at GSC. The Natural Resource Exploration Day will take place on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at 6455 Huntersville Road in Marlinton, West Virginia.
GSC Professor Collects Data at World Weightlifting Championships
This past November, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, Dr. William ‘Guy’ Hornsby, was part of a three-person research team that collected kinematic data at the 2015 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Houston, Texas. The ten day event, televised by ESPN2, was the largest in history with around 300 lifters. It marked the first time in nearly 40 years the Championships, which determine how many spots each country qualifies for in the 2016 Summer Olympics, were hosted by the United States.
GSC Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble on International Stage Again
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, under the direction of GSC Assistant Professor of Music and Department of Fine Arts Chair Dr. Lloyd E. Bone Jr., was one of only 45 tuba and euphonium ensembles from around the world invited to perform at the 2016 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference (ITEC) at the University of Tennessee.
