Merical, Lowe to Serve as Co-Field Commanders for GSC's Marching Band

Two Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College students will be serving as co-field commanders for the Pioneer ‘Wall of Sound’ Marching Band this semester. Evan Merical, a Millwood, West Virginia native, and Derrick Lowe, who hails from Chapmanville, West Virginia, will share the field commander duties. Together they are tasked with ensuring rehearsals run smoothly, helping the band director lead the band, and to keep up the morale of the band’s members.

Orientation Weekend Kicks off New Academic Year at GSC

The fall 2017 semester has official begun at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College with the addition of over 300 freshmen who arrived on campus prior to classes beginning to take part in orientation activities. In addition to moving in, the students were welcomed with social events and other activities to help ease them into life as a student at GSC.

GSC Faculty Members Expand International Learning Opportunities with Summer Trips

Globetrotting faculty members from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College took several trips this summer, all of them orchestrated through the College’s Office of International Programs in efforts to bolster study abroad opportunities for GSC students and faculty and to expand GSC’s Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. These immersive opportunities for faculty were made possible by a Capacity Building Grant that GSC received from the U.S. Department of State and Partners of the Americas.

Continuing in his efforts to ‘hold the line’ on costs relating to higher education, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College President Dr. Tracy Pellett announced on Tuesday that the institution would be making changes to its residential and commuter meal plans to financially benefit students.

No Tuition Hike for 2017-18 at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College

Despite another year of appropriation cuts to higher education in the Mountain State, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College announced Thursday that it would not be increasing student tuition and fees to offset the difference. Backed by the College’s Board of Governors, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community members, incoming Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College President Dr. Tracy Pellett made the announcement at GSC’s Waco Center.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College History Book Now Available

A full-color photo and history book about the last twenty years at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College has recently been completed. The book, Preserving and Responding, can be purchased from the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Foundation or at the campus Bookstore for $24.99 (shipping included). The book is a companion to Nelson Wells’ and Charles Holt’s Lighthouse on the Hill, which chronicled the College’s history from 1872 through 1997.

GSC Wins Capacity Building Grants for U.S. Undergraduate Study Abroad

The U.S. Department of State and Partners of the Americas have announced that Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College is among the eleven recipients of the 2017 Capacity Building Grants for U.S. Undergraduate Study Abroad. Each winning institution is awarded up to $42,000 to increase and diversify participation in study abroad on their campuses. GSC is the only college or university in West Virginia to receive the grant.
