GLENVILLE, WV – Eleven new students are completing their first semester at 鶹ƵState College (GSC) as part of the College’s 鶹Ƶ Grown Program.
The program is focused on prospective teacher identification in the county schools partnered with scholarship support for candidate attendance at GSC, practical experiences, and mentoring during teacher preparation into the start of full-time teaching. The goal is for those students to return to their home counties to student teach and, if available, be able to apply for open positions in their home district.
Accepted students receive a scholarship up to $3,000 per academic year.
The new 鶹Ƶ Grown Scholars for the 2020-2021 academic year include: Nicole Bailey of Elizabeth (Wirt County), Erin Barnette of Burnsville (Braxton County), Emily Barr of Canvas (Nicholas County), Brandon Bowie of Ellenboro (Ritchie County), Rylee Copeland of Elizabeth (Wirt County), Adam Davis of Pennsboro (Ritchie County), Josie Hill of Point Pleasant (Mason County), Kayla Kulik of Charleston (Kanawha County), Emily Lewis of Fayetteville (Fayette County), Abigail Long of Sutton (Braxton County), and Peyton Smith of Gassaway (Braxton County).
“The students who receive the 鶹Ƶ Grown Scholarship from 鶹ƵState College are dedicated to their home communities,” stated Dr. Jeff Hunter, Dean of Education at GSC. “They represent the next generation of highly qualified, skilled, exceptional teachers graduating from our Education programs and we are Pioneer Proud of every one of them!”
