GLENVILLE, WV – The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Student Government Association and the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Committee have planned a number of activities for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends during the week of September 21 for GSC’s annual Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming celebration. This year’s theme is ‘GSC ♥’s the 90’s’ – which celebrates the entertainment, fashion, and more from the 1990s. Honored guests will include GSC’s former Student Body Presidents, who will also serve collectively as Parade Marshal for the Saturday morning parade. Additionally, all alumni are encouraged to attend the alumni tailgate before the football game on Saturday afternoon.
Monday, September 21 includes the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Picnic from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Luanna T. Smith Amphitheater with the crowning of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming royalty at noon. That evening there will be a 5K run/walk through campus and the community followed by the always-popular Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming bingo game for students that evening.
Members of the Student Government Association will give away free popcorn in the Rusty Musket from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22. The Lady Pioneer Volleyball team also will take on Walsh University at 6:00 p.m. in the Waco Center and a hypnotist, scheduled by the Student Activities office, will mesmerize students later on at 8:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, September 23 the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming activities continue with a campus-wide scavenger hunt beginning at 4:00 p.m. that will lead into 90’s Game Night hosted by SGA at 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 24 includes the perennial campus favorite with the Sandy Sowell Game Show from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Rusty Musket. Students will wrap up Thursday evening with the annual Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Dance.
GSC graduate Joseph Pettit (’76) returns to the Robert F. Kidd Library for a showing of his artwork again this year. Visitors can stop by throughout the day on Friday, September 25 to see his paintings. Also on Friday, the Lady Pioneer Softball team will sponsor a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Golf Tournament at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµGolf Club. Friday evening the Pioneer Athletic Club will hold its annual Pioneer Steak Grill ‘Grillin & Chillin’ fundraiser beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµGolf Club. Starting at 7:00 p.m. back on the main campus in the Amphitheater will be the campus Chili Cook-Off progressing into the Pep Rally and Spirit Competition which start at 8:00 p.m.
The week culminates on Saturday, September 26 with the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Parade in downtown Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµstarting at 10:00 a.m. Parade entry forms are available on the homecoming page of the GSC website. All GSC alumni are then invited to enjoy a tailgate picnic in the Morris Stadium parking area beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Returning Lambda Chi’s, Theta Xi’s, and TKE’s will have special tailgate tents in close proximity to the larger alumni tent in which to visit and reminisce on Saturday.
Pregame activities including recognition of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµcoming Court, Montrose and Williams Award presentations, and the ‘Wall of Sound’ Marching Band Pregame Show will take place at 1:00 p.m. Game kickoff between the GSC Pioneers and the UVA Wise Cavilers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Returning Student Body Presidents will be honored during halftime of the game, followed by the Marching Band’s halftime show.
