Connie Stout O’Dell is an Associate Professor of Education at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College. She also serves as the Director of Teacher Education Field Placement and the Chair of the Department of Education. She completed her undergraduate degree at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College in Elementary and Multi-Categorical Special Education and a Master’s in Elementary and Early Education at West Virginia University.
She joined the faculty at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College in 1999 after teaching in public schools. At Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College, she teaches early education and elementary courses, prepares interns, and supervises interns during their final semester. She also serves as a co-advisor to the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College Early Education Student group and the Student Reading Interest Group. In 2020, she received the Curtis Elam Professor for Teaching Excellence Award.
Aside from teaching duties, Stout O'Dell serves as the President of the West Virginia Association for Young Children and she is a Board of Directors member for the Southern Early Childhood Association. She has also served as an Affiliate Council representative for the National Association for the Education of Young Children where she was honored to represent the West Virginia Association for Young Children. She is active in a variety of other professional organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma and the West Virginia Reading Association, as well as community, cultural, and church events and activities.
A very important part of her life is her family. Her husband, Dr. David O’Dell, is a Professor of Chemistry at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµState College and her son, Nathan, is a graduate student at Ashland University. She enjoys traveling, cooking, visiting antique shops, and spending time in nature with her family.
